FREELANCING
: The Mantra of Modern Youngster.
Freelancing has been a popular trend among youngsters and the new self managed CEOs.Most people would presume that gainful employment at a well established, reputed multinational company would be the primary goal of any young, aspiring professional, fresh out of college. And rightful so. The security of a job, the prospects of career growth, in addition to the reputation of a well-respected company attached to your name, is a career move that's considered a pretty strong indication that you're on the right track.While the security that comes with a full-time job is, in many ways, undisputed an increasing number of young professionals are electing to work as free-lancers or in other words, become their own boss. What's more, until recently, freelancing was considered an option that was limited to professions such as journalism and photography, but today, as young professionals find it easier to frequently switch jobs in order to climb the career ladder, and as the number of students venturing into the realm of 'offbeat' careers grows, young professionals seem to the gaining confidence in this newly ventured field. Benefits of freelancing are many, naming a few : Freelancers generally enjoy a greater variety of assignments than in regular employment, and subject to the need to earn a regular income usually have more freedom to choose their work schedule. The experience can also lead to a broad portfolio of work and the establishment of a network of clients. Sometimes a freelancer will work with one or more other freelancers and/or vendors to form a "virtual agency" to serve a particular client's needs for short-term and permanent project work. This versatile agency model can help a freelancer land jobs that require targeted, specific experience and skills outside the scope of one individual. As the clients change, so too may the players chosen for a virtual agency's talent base. Freelancers and clients may form a relationship based on mutual needs and the professionalism and competence of both parties. Alternatively, those who prefer full-time jobs offer arguments that will perhaps, continue to hold a significant place in an increasingly competitive job market. Some would always prefer a full-time job, because you're surrounded by like -minded people in an environment that is work-driven and a large part of the joy of working comes from being part of a team, working towards a common objective.'' Perhaps then, one need n't ask if the option of free-lancing is more lucrative than that of a full -time job. But by virtue of the fact that opportunities to free-lancers are becoming more visible, young professionals are being presented with yet another way by which they can achieve their professional goals. |
